KOLIWADA MANIFESTO

DANCING DENSITY: LET'S GET DENSE!!!

We proposed a 'KOLIWADA MANIFESTO' which aims to be protocol for defining the conditions under which any future development will depend upon in Koliwada (and in Dharavi also):

1. Density is not the limit, but the core of urban condition. Every solution should avoid any form of programmatic displacement of the residents.

2. A city is a work of art, and the way of life in Koliwada is a work of art. We need to accommodate any existing way of life in the context of the city.

3. Mutuality: Harmonious life for defferent ethnicities is based on mutual aid.

4. If existing forms of life are not to expire, then the village will require radical changes.

5. Rather than solutions, we need negotiated visions. The initial development should create potentials rather than a monolithic solution.

6. In order to have a design intervention that can endure, we porpose a structure of interventions that is able to adapt and modify for slow changes.

7. Conviviality: Amenities cannot be measured by normative institutions, but by the degree of livlihood in a variety of ways. The quality of life in Koliwada is guarateed by the proximity between work and living spaces.

8. Standardization is efficient but we prefer a dancing landscape.

9. 'GROUND IS NOT THE LIMIT. THERE ARE MORE THINGS BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH THAN ANYBODY CAN KNOW'.
