Visit to Kanchanjunga shrine

For their first afternoon in Mumbai, we took graduate students from the Royal University College of Fine Arts (KKH) in Stockholm for a visit of Charles Correa’s Kanchanjunga Apartments (1983). It is fair to say that we were impressed with the elegance of the building and the spaciousness of the apartments, most of them 360º duplexes or triplexes (said to go for a rental of minimum Rs. 700,000 per month). The best was the view from the 14th floor.

Kanchanjunga Apartments are located at Cumballa Hills.

On the back of Kanchanjunga grows Mukesh Ambani’s Antilla tower, which will be the tallest private home in the world. The building is intended to become a landmark in the city. Perhaps the most controversial claim made about this 173 meter-high home with 6 floors for parking designed to house 16 people is its supposed eco-friendliness!

Then we walked from Chowpatty Beach to James Ferreria’s house in Khotachiwadi, where author, poet and stand-up comedian Jerry Pinto delivered a very lively and personal account of Mumbai’s history.
