Workshops

URBZ complements the use of online systems and tools for localities and neighbourhoods with workshops, events and grassroots initiatives. Workshops are integral to our methodology and symbolize the collective spirit that guides our use of online resources. They are the means through which we communicate with residents, provide a means of interaction and evolve visions and plans collectively. It is through the workshops that the online resources get used to their maximum and it is also through the web that the workshops become successful. The Urban Typhoon workshops focus on community participation in urban planning and the URBZ MASHUPS engage residents and international participants in creative exercises about cities.

In a small but significant way, these workshops represent new modes of activism and knowledge practices that engage with realities of the day, realities that affect millions of people.

Our attempt is to facilitate the creation of inclusive spaces in which people participate freely, express their visions and ideas and collectively hone their skills with regard to living in cities. We hope to minimise gaps between self-governance, free cultural expression and  activism, in which the workshops also act as means of bringing us closer to those ideals.

My name is Martina and I am an architect from Vienna/ Austria. I have been working in India for a couple of years, with DCOOP in Mumbai, HCP/ Vastu Shilpa Foundation in Ahmedabad and COSTFORD in Trivandrum.
I will start my doctor thesis on Dharavi right now and will come to Mumbai for the fieldwork in October, staying here at least for a year.
During our fieldwork in Dharavi, my guide Dr. Karin Raith and me would like to work with NGOs settled in Dharavi together- to get a constant feedback and ideas from each other!
I would be very happy if you can give me further information/contact emails of NGOs in Dharavi- and we would also be vry happy to get in contact with you!
    Thank you so much!
I look forward to hearing from you soon and wish you a pleasant day!
    Best regards from Austria,
    Martina

    Hi URBZ!
I am Jolijn, an Urban Designer from the Netherlands.
I ‘m studying for my Master degree in Urbanism on the Academy of Architecture and Urbanism. I am busy now with the next trip abroad with my fellow students. We thought it would be very interesting to come to Mumbaï! Maybe you can help us with some good ideas about a one week trip to Mumbaï, full of inspiration about Urbanism and Architecture.
I hope you can help me!
Thank you very much in advance!
