While maps help with spatial readings of a place, it is still an overview, a gaze from the outside. We have been trying to develop tools for participatory urban planning which relies less on maps and more on the stories of people and places. We find that stories are a way of understanding a place from within, they include temporal aspects which are deeply entwined with the spatial.
