In 2027, the Nantes Hospital, the largest employer in the city, will move from the Hôtel-Dieu, its current site in the city centre, to the Île de Nantes.
Nantes Métropole led a participatory process to work with local residents to imagine the future of this 250.000 sqm site. Along with Bien Urbaines and Triple Sens, urbz supported Nantes Métropole by offering a wide range of collective inspirational activities, including urban walks, sensorial observations, coffee talks, workshops, and days of debate and exchange around Hôtel-Dieu.
urbz focused on organising a Writer's Room, inspired by Television Writers' Rooms, and produced fictional movie scripts and short stories for the future of Hôtel-Dieu.
The idea of this methodology was to tap into the collective unconscious, reveal the spirit and hidden potential of the site, and link up individual and collective imaginations, moving beyond the realms of the reasonable and the realistic. A number of ideas for film scripts and short stories emerged from the process and were transformed into a variety of media (posters, illustrations, videos, texts, fictional maps of the site, etc.).
The idea was to kickstart a process in which artists, filmmakers and others interested in the site could turn the material authored by local residents into short films or animated features in the future.

Remember the Urban Typhoon workshops in Kochi? These workshops were part of the EnteKochi citylab. We are now back with the Entekochi competition. This is a national level Urban Design Competition, aiming to jointly ‘design the future city’ of Kochi. It is envisaged to plan and then facilitate the implementation of an integrated civic project.
